Ward Issues
Having been, along with my colleague Cllr Brown instigators in setting up the Garlinge Residents Association I am pleased to hear that the membership continues to grow. Out of this group the Garlinge Action Group was formed and they regularly are out clearing the alleyways etc.

I am also pleased to report that an allottment site has now been "given" over to the Residents Association to encourage those that need friendship or to get out, to get invovled in. This will also help youngsters in finding out about growing of vegetables etc.

I appreciate there has been a speight of vandalism within the allottment area and would encourage anyone who knows who is responsible, to report this to TDC.
There is a programme for enhancing the fencing in allotments so hopefully, this will help.

There will also soon be a small footie pitch made for the youngsters, this will not be a full size pitch, but big enough for what they want, to kick around etc. It will also include nets.  This will be behind the changing rooms on the rec and behind the current full size pitches.

I hope that this will encourage more to play here as opposed to on the streets where it is obviously dangerous.

Wheelie Bins
Having recently taken over the Portfolio for Commercial and Environmental Services I intend to visit and spend time working with the teams within this Portfolio.

Yesterday (6th June) I had the pleasure of getting up at 05.00 am and joined the team for Round 3 on the Wheelie Bin round, this was Palm Bay and we were at our first pick up point  (The Ridings) by 06.00.

I quickly picked up the knack of loading the wheelies onto the freighter and in a funny sort of way thought it was "exciting". This feeling of excitement however diminished hour by hour when I realised just how hard it is; an incredible amount of walking, pushing, lifting etc etc and not a "cafe" in site to have a cuppa!

Residents in this area I felt were very helpful in putting their bins out ready, unfortunately there were a couple who had the wrong bins out but generally I thought it was all under control.  The only critiscism if any would be to ask the residents to put their house number on the bins (my apologies if you did not get your right bin back!) as in some areas where the freighter cannot get to, the wheelies are collected and are then in a group, therefore hard to identify where they came from - NOT hard for the crew in question, however.

All four of the crew were concientious, friendly and very kind in putting the bins back for elderly residents.

I will be joining another team in another area shortly - when the aches and pains I received during this only excercise my body gets, have dissappeared.

About me
I am a Conservative party District Councillor serving as a representative for all residents within the Garlinge ward.

I am a member of the following committees:
  • Cabinet - Portfolio for Commercial and Environmental Services

I have lived in Margate all of my life coming from a large Margatonian family, many of whom still live in the town.

I have three wonderful children from my first marriage, two live locally and one in Aldershot. I married my husband Mick (Tee) also a Councillor and the Town Mayor of Margate in 2006, in May 1999 after being together for nearly 16 years. We became Grandparents in Oct and November to my sons and daughter-in-laws new sons.

We both love Margate and I joined Mick in his Carnival work for Margate in 1989, a tradition  we both do not want to see die.

Being Mayoress was a very proud position to be in, although I was not doing anything different to what I would normally do - talking up and promoting Margate, although having the honour of escorting Mick and wearing a beautiful gold chain full of history put the icing on the cake. We are both very very proud to have held these positions. We both met many wonderful people and visited many wondeful places.

I enjoy challenges and perhaps the "lighter side of life" and have achieved many of my ambitions. One of which, was to do a tandem parachute jump in March within my role as Mayoress.

I like to be involved with the community and I am a "hands on" person not afraid of a bit of hard work or getting my hands dirty. I would never dream of asking someone to do something I was not prepared to do myself.

I have strong morals and I do believe what is "good for one" should be "good for everyone"

I enjoy my Cllr work and I am looking forward to the coming year.
