Budget Consultation
What are your priorities for 2009-10?
Every year Thanet District Council has to
decide how to allocate council tax to fund a number of council
services, and to make improvements to the service it provides to
residents.
In order to fund these improvements the
Council also has to decide how to make savings.
This is particularly important given the
current financial climate with unsettled banking, national
recession and the global credit crunch all having an effect on the
council’s spending.
It is more important than ever that the
Council reviews the services it delivers and the way that it
delivers them so that its limited resources are used to maximum
effect for local residents.
The council's commitments
The council have to balance the budget whilst
ensuring that it:
- Provides statutory services for its
residents
- Meets the corporate priorities as set out in the
2007-2011 Corporate Plan
- Maintains a balanced General Fund - income from
fees and charges, Council Tax and Government and other grants must
be sufficient to meet all expenditure.
- Keeps council tax increases as low as possible
(preferably below 4.5%)
- Engages with residents to help shape the
financial decisions it needs to make
- Minimises the impact on the general public and
business communities from charges levied by the Council as set out
within its approved fees and charges.
